Small-town lawyer Laura (Laura Dern) is growing tired of explaining to her most obstinate client (Jared Harris) that even though his former employer is responsible for his current disability they are not legally bound to keep paying his worker’s compensation.
Having been unfaithful to his wife Gina (Michelle Williams), Ryan (James Le Gros), attempts to make reparations by promising to build a beautiful house out in the country using mostly natural and local resources. The couple asks their friend Albert (René Auberjonois) if they can use the sandstone that’s been sitting in front of his house for many years. The request is not taken lightly.
Beth (Kristen Stewart) meets a horse rancher (Lily Gladstone) at one of her classes on educational law for teachers. The two women develop a peculiar friendship—one that gets tested when Beth suddenly quits her job.
The latest from Miami-born indie auteur Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy) is based on three stories by Maile Meloy, each populated by fascinating women not to be underestimated. Reichardt’s use of the Montana landscape fills the screen with beauty, connecting the vastness of the land to its history and the people who inhabit it. – Andrés Castillo
